Ponderosa Valley Vineyard & Winery
Award Winning New Mexico Wines
News
Harvest 2012 is looking great.
We have released, as promised, our 2010 Estate Pinot Noir. Among the awards won by this wine, are two golds, two silvers and one bronze medal in competition to date. We enter multiple competitions including Colorado, Indy International and New Mexico State Fair.
Our 2008 Tempranillo received a double gold at the New Mexico State Fair and a silver medal in the Finger Lakes Competition. This Spanish grape should, in time, be the New Mexico signature red wine. It grows well in New Mexico and continues to produce award winning wines.
Our 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, is 13% Merlot. It is just opening up and has an impressive balance of acidity and tannin structure. Drink now or lay down for 10 years or more.
Both our Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were sourced from the New Mexico Vineyards in Deming, New Mexico.
We are still replanting our Riesling vines. Thirty years ago we planted an acre of Riesling vines and like everyone else, we purchased these vines from the California Central Valley. Those vines are not a particularly cold-hardy clone. We have located and purchased a Riesling, clone 90, from Washington State's Inland Desert vineyards. These vines should be well suited to our climate.
Our winery tasting room is open from 10 am to 5 pm on Tuesday - Saturday and 12 noon to 5 pm on Sunday.
We are alway closed on Monday.
Come see us if you can. We would be delighted in providing you an opportunity to taste our New Mexico Wines.
